Border Star Montessori earns top certification

Border Star Montessori School has received recognition as an AMI affiliated school, earning an AMI Certificate of Recognition for both its “Children’s House”and “Elementary” levels for the 2009-2010 school year. Before the certificate was awarded, teachers received an on-site visit from a representative specializing in the appropriate PreK-6 age levels taught in their classrooms.

To receive the world-acclaimed designation, schools are visited and evaluated by trained representatives, and the certificate is valid only for a single current school year beginning in September. Recognition as an associated school is based on a set of standards devised by AMI for this purpose, and a complete application must be made annually. Two AMI representatives determined how closely Border Star follows the principles and practices set forth by Dr. Maria Montessori in their original integrity and completeness.

Eligibility for an AMI Certificate of Recognition is based on criteria such as the attainment of an AMI diploma by one teacher for the appropriate grade levels being taught in that classroom. The teacher is required to display a philosophical approach to instruction consistent with the AMI training course. All classes follow a multiple-age format, with students ranging from P3-K, grades 1-3, and grades 4-6. They must also be furnished with a complete set of AMI-approved materials from an approved manufacturer. Designated Montessori schools also adhere to local, state, and federal ordinances, statutes, rules and regulations.
