I hope everyone had an enjoyable and relaxing summer. I look forward to meeting our new students and parents and welcoming back our returning families.
My name is Kim Green and I am proud to be the full-time Counselor at Border Star Montessori. I hold a Masters Degree from Emporia State University in School Counseling and have worked in education for 26 years.
The school counseling program at Border Star Montessori is designed to be proactive and assists in meeting the developmental, academic, and personal/social needs of the students. I facilitate both individual and group counseling. Consultation and collaboration with parents and staff is utilized and referrals to community agencies are made when indicated.
Students may be referred by a teacher, parent or the individual student may request to see the school counselor. Students are provided the opportunity to explore feelings and concerns about issues related to school or home. Emphasis is placed upon assisting the students to develop problem-solving skills and to manage identified problems more effectively. Counselors often help children with “quick and easy” problem-solving. If I would like to work with your child to help him/her with an ongoing concern, I will call you to obtain written consent, so that we can work as a team. Parents also need to know that confidentiality is a part of the counseling process; however, I may ask permission to share information with a child’s teacher if it would be in the student’s best interest.
